Blooming lovely

Posted by Klynton on Jun 20, 2014 - 04:39 PM
So I started attempting to grow all sorts of fun vegetables and fruits 2 months ago, I've now got all sorts of things growing...

Gardening...

Posted by Klynton on Apr 15, 2014 - 03:56 PM
So it's that time of year, gardening season. With my lovely fancy new garden I'm really looking forward to growing some stuff in the greenhouse and raised beds...

BT - an Infinity of waiting....

Posted by Klynton on Jul 30, 2013 - 07:01 PM
I moved into my new house last month. It's now 39 days, 4 BT engineer visits (although I guess technically 3 as one never turned up after phoning me to say he'd be there 'soon'), 29 phone calls, 4 letters to BT's managing director and many many lies and broken promises later.... and they think it might be sorted 'soon'.

Words just cannot describe how awful they are.

If anyone is considering BT Infinity do yourself a favour, see if any other company is available.

Home sweet home!

Posted by Klynton on Jun 30, 2013 - 06:43 PM
I'm now a home owner. Put an offer in on a house and it's all gone through.

Nice 3 bedroom house with drive and garden (and a vegetable 'allotment').

New Windows? 'Blue' Windows?

Posted by Klynton on Feb 28, 2013 - 05:14 PM
So no sooner had I said how useless I think the new UI for Windows 8 is on a normal PC than 'secret rumours' of Windows Blue surface....

Windows 8 / Server 2012

Posted by Klynton on Feb 21, 2013 - 10:28 PM
I'm still waiting for the first person to tell me how all their servers have touchscreen monitors.

MS certainly appear to believe this is the standard given it's the default.... *sorry* only UI available.

2013 - We're beyond the future now.

Posted by Klynton on Jan 20, 2013 - 01:40 PM
Another new year, and we've still not got hover cars or boards....

How famous is my brother? XKCD famous!

Posted by Klynton on Sep 05, 2012 - 08:37 PM
Todays XKCD.com comic is all based on my brother's paper.

Back from America

Posted by Klynton on Sep 05, 2012 - 08:28 PM
So I made it home from my trip to America, which was great fun.

Got to see Pen and Tellers' show in Las Vegas, various animals and geological interests in Yellowstone National Park and of course my brothers wedding....

Not dead yet

Posted by Klynton on Nov 02, 2011 - 10:57 PM
Ages since I posted anything on here. I guess Facebook / Twitter have killed personal sites.

So long in fact that I'd forgotten my own password to log on here.

Xbox 360

Posted by Klynton on May 25, 2010 - 11:26 PM
With Natal just around the corner I finally saw a decent deal for an Xbox 360 so purchased it. Impressed so far, some aspects I think the PS3 got right however the online does seem far more established with everyone chatting away happily, rather than the 'sat in the voids of outer space' feeling you can get with PS3 games as no-one ever talks.....

Blast from the past

Posted by Klynton on Apr 19, 2010 - 06:14 PM
So I saw a link to Klynton.com coming from a random domain so thought I'd check it out.

Thus I discovered http://web.archive.org a site that holds copies of websites going back to the 90s.

This includes copies of Klynton.com from back in 2002 when I first bought the domain (sadly I can't find the sites from before I purchased a domain name).

*Crash crunch*

Posted by Klynton on Mar 18, 2010 - 07:21 PM
So my car died last week (**poor Klynton**). Driving out of the car park at work the engine blasted out, and then the exhaust fell off at the front.....

Belated Update

Posted by Klynton on Feb 08, 2010 - 07:15 PM
So it's been a few months what has Klynton been up to?

Well towards the beginning of January I went down to London to help showcase our new software at the BETT Show (British Education and Teacher Training).

It's that time of year again. The snow has started falling and everyone is busy rushing about buying last minute gifts... Hope you all have a great Christmas!

Quick and Dirty

Posted by Klynton on Dec 07, 2009 - 07:14 PM
Searching on the site has been fixed. I had forgotten to load some modules into the system consequently it failed when it couldn't find them.

On another note, it's getting cold here but Wintereenmas is yet to start.

Hack Attack

Posted by Klynton on Sep 03, 2009 - 09:15 PM
So you may have noticed Firefox didn't like my site for the last few days.

A mate asked me for help setting up a website for them and I recommended a new CMS I was thinking of running, almost prophetically I pointed out at the time that I hadn’t updated the CMS software this site used as a backend for about 2 years and that it's only a matter of time until it got hacked, then two weeks later I saw a random bot had been inserting all manner to crap into the SQL database and taking control of the old legacy CSS/SSI pages I had from the previous non php website.

Still it did force me to upgrade and now we’re back online and in true great form after contacting Google they reran their risk assessments on the site and unclassified it as ‘malware distributing’ within 12 hours. Can’t ask for better service.

Italy pictures will be up soonish.

Where have you been?

Posted by Klynton on Aug 15, 2009 - 10:45 AM
So it's been over a year since the last update, I know I'm just lazy when it comes to keeping my own site active.

Anyway what have I been up to? I guess the first thing that comes to mind is I've got a new job. I finally left the Co-op as my department was getting rid of all contractors. They offered us all permanent jobs within the team (on less money / possibility of 24 hour work / etc) however I felt it a good time to leave.

I admit with the credit crunch in full swing at that time I did feel slight intrepidation, however 3 days later I was offered an interview for a job just a few miles from my house and was employed again.

Playstation Fun

Posted by Klynton on Apr 14, 2008 - 06:05 AM
So I decided after enjoying playing with the PS2 at Christmas I would splash out and buy a PS3, and I have to say I've been impressed.

The graphics are very good (which you would expect from a next gen platform) but it's the extra abilities that really swayed me in forking out the money.

Rather than just a gaming device, which the PS1/2 were, the PS3 is more justly defined as a computer. You can install an OS on it (Various Linux distro's) and it allow you to do so much more.

Car Purchase

Posted by Klynton on Jan 22, 2008 - 08:25 AM
So last weekend I finally bought a car.

Peugeot 206

Hopefully soon you'll be able to click on the link above and view pictures of it, but for now you'll have to make do with the description.

Metallic Green, 1.4 LX, 5 Door.

Prague and beyond

Posted by Klynton on Dec 03, 2007 - 10:55 PM
Well it's been some time since the last update, so where have I been?

Prague - Click for pictures.

Yes away on another holiday, 2nd one in three weeks (well contractor so take them when you can). Lots of fun times and, somewhat unsurprisingly, drunk times. I may do a more in depth write-up on some nights out, but for now we'll leave it unsaid.

Pictures will be up soon(ish), hoping to get all of them from the others who accompanied me. So they'll go up in the relevant section...

Driving Forward

Posted by Klynton on Oct 30, 2007 - 03:58 PM
Does searching for car insurance drive you crazy?.... Well no, but I do find it tediously dull.

Yes that's right, car hunting time. Having spent far too long looking at different insurance rates / companies for various cars I'm almost ready to shell out the cash on a car.

My problem has always been a complete indifference to cars. What make / model / engine size / etc are largely irrelevant issues, just having a car is the end goal. Which admittedly makes it very easy to ensure is the eventual outcome....

Et Tu Brutix?

Posted by Klynton on Aug 10, 2007 - 10:59 AM
I was recently sent a reactivation trial for my old EVE Online account, after much musing I decided it'd be a waste not to have a look at how it's changed in the 1.5ish years since I last played, so I reinstalled it and away I went.

Big Mistake. It has now suckered me back into the world of MMORPGs that I had bravely escaped from but 11 months ago, previously being a World of Warcraft addict, lured by it's new features and due to the economy having crashed a bit.

When I left I was a non-poor (but by no means rich) player, hunting pirates as it was pretty much that or the monotonous mining game. When I returned however the meagre amount of ISK (Currency of EVE) allowed me to almost straight away buy a nice big Brutix Battle Cruiser.

Alas poor social life I knew him well.....

Young Trends

Posted by Klynton on Jul 09, 2007 - 01:55 PM
So after having been told by over 20 different people that I should join Facebook 'to keep in touch', clearly not noticing the huge site here for just that purpose, I finally relented and (repressing the giddy feeling that I was a 13 year old kid again) set up an account.

Immediately upon 'inviting' friends to accept me into their exclusive groups I was asked why I only had 1 photo up. Yet the mere suggestion that it is pointless to put them up again, on facebook, when they are hosted here just fell on deaf ears....
